Great White Mouse Hunter/Chili and Hot Chocolate

by Laurel on October 18, 2008

My 2-year-old dog jumped up on my bed yesterday to present me with a lovely dried out mouse carcass.
I thought only cats did that. That's the reason (one of many) I don't have a cat!
Poor Gunther was confused when, upon realizing what he was gnawing on was a mouse, I started yelling.

Today we went downtown and wandered around the local chili contest. This is absolutely my favorite time of year. Just cold enough to need a cozy sweater, but not too cold to be wandering around outside without a jacket. Soup and chili weather. Leaf-turning weather. The air just seems crisp and clean and the whole season is designed to inspire snuggling, i feel.

It's also hot cocoa weather. :) I've found an orgasm-in-a-cup, also known as salted-caramel hot chocolate. You can pay $4 a cup for it at Starbucks or, you can get yourself some plain hot chocolate, some Reddi-Whip, a thick caramel topping and some smoked sea salt and turbinado sugar.
You top the chocolate with whipped cream, drizzle ample amounts of caramel on top of that and sprinkle with the sugar and salt mixed together.
If you can't find or don't want to pay for smoked sea salt, plain sea salt works well too, but it does taste different than plain regular salt. I am not sure if turbinado and raw sugar are the same thing, but raw sugar works just as well.
