Review ~ iTap G Vibe from Cal Exotics

by Laurel on December 23, 2009

California Exotics has come out with something new in vibrator control… the iTap touch control line has many different choices and recently I got to try out the iTap G vibrator from this collection.

Specs:
Color: White -also comes in pink and lavender.

Texture: Velvet Cote – smooth, but not slick. This creates friction when dragged across your skin which I love for external stimulation, but loathe for insertion. If you like less drag when inserting your toy, a good water-based or silicone lube is your answer.

Size: 7.5″ long, 6″ insertable length and 1″ in diameter

Shape: Smooth and slender with a curve at the end that works well for G-spot or clitoral stimulation. No bumps, ridges or realistic penis detail.

Power Source: 2 AA batteries

Vibration Type: 2 continuous vibe settings and 3 pulsing vibe options. I would call this a medium-to-low frequency, throbbing sort of vibration. It’s more thuddy than buzzy and less likely to induce the numbness I associate with the high frequency buzz of some vibes.

Cleaning and Care: Plastic is easy to keep clean with antibacterial soap and warm water or your fav toy cleaner. It is not a waterproof toy, so avoid getting water near the cap to the battery compartment. Condoms should be used if you plan to share this toy. Any lube other than oil-based should be safe to use.

Experience:
At first use, this is a solid, slender, almost petite vibrator. Its vibes are strong and the curved and pointed end is perfect for directing vibrations exactly where you want them to be.

I prefer to use this for external stimulation, rather than insertion, simply because I tend to like my insertion toys with more girth.

If you’ve read any of the other reviews on iTap products, you will not be surprised when I say the feature that makes this toy unique is, in fact, it’s only flaw.

The iTap controls are cool, at first. Certainly, they are easy to use, but also easy to use by accident. My natural grip is at the base of this toy, where the control pad is located. The problem arises when I’m going along, enjoying myself and hit the pad, changing the pattern. Even worse, if this happens enough, you can experience the horribly timed shut off this toy at the worst possible moment.

I knew about this issue when my toy arrived, but I figured, no big deal. Except, it is a big deal, because it’s annoying. Annoyance is not the mood I am going for during masturbation. Annoyance is distracting, annoyance kills the mood.

So, it’s nearly a fatal flaw for this toy. It’s easily remedied by training your hand to stay way from the touch pad, sure. But is this particular toy worth going through the extra trouble to avoid touching the pad. I am just not sure it is.

I think Cal Ex is on to something with this new touch control pad, but it’s got some details to work out. Not every toy design can make effective use of this type of control. I think the best one yet has been the bullet vibe with the hand-held control pack that you don’t actually have to touch unless you need to when using the toy.

I’ll use this vibe, because its strong vibes are my thing, the control really is easy to use (when intentionally changing the vibe patterns) and it was free. Free somehow always makes an annoying feature a little less so.

But, would I buy this toy? No, I wouldn’t.
If you are at all interested in this or any of the other iTap products, you can pick them up at my favorite online sextoy shop.
