Seriously Sick of Being Sick

by Laurel on December 6, 2009

So, about 6ish weeks ago there was a blurb on here about me having the swine flu. I was out of work for a week with that and it seems like i’ve been fighting with follow-up shit ever since.

Nothing has been as bad, usually just knocks me out for a day, maybe two. But seriously, I’ve been sick enough to crawl in bed and sleep the day away about 3 times since the flu!

Enough already!

This time, I managed to get a nice throat infection and exacerbated it by starting a new medication (somewhere in all this my blood pressure shot up to like, really scary numbers for a yet undetermined reason) whose most common complication happens to be an allergic reaction that manifests…where? Oh, of course, in your THROAT!

So, since Wednesday night I’ve been going off, back on and off again of this med while doctors try to figure out if I am having an allergic reaction, a bacterial infection or both and what the hell to do about it. Yesterday, I decided to take myself off the medication because the doctor at the weekend walk-in clinic couldn’t decide one way or the other. All I got out of him was “Well you could stop taking it if you are worried about it. Whatever you want to do.”

That’s great dude. You spent all that money on medical school and you can’t fucking tell me to take or not take this medication? You should get your money back and, I dunno, sell cars or something.

The reason I went to see the guy in the first place was because the doctor on call from my regular doctor’s office was concerned and unable to tell, over the phone, what he was dealing with. So, he sent me to see a doctor in person so that doctor could make a determination. That’s great, except I managed to see a doctor who was unable to MAKE a fucking decision.

So, I paid him $89 to make my own decision. I could have stayed home and done that for free.

And don’t even get me started on the insurance coverage in this situation. My blood pressure is high, remember, let’s not send it any higher.

I seem to be improving as of this morning, but there’s no telling if that’s the lack of BP meds or the antibiotics kicking in. Either way, I am considering moving into a plastic bubble so my immune system has a chance to repair.
